(Synopsis)
Near the end of Ching dynasty in early 20th century, China experienced some turbulent years. Extraordinary figures at the time include the notorious Japanese spy, Kawashima Yoshiko (Anita Mui). This is an ambitious piece from novelist and screenwriter Lillian Lee on Yoshiko's life and unconfirmed death. She is known to the international audience as the leather-clad, toe-sucking bisexual war-spy in Bertolucci's "The Last Emperor". She has an extremely complicated personality which makes her all the more mysterious. Seemingly, a richly weaved tapestry of abused childhood, mistaken and unfulfilled ambition cause all to end in tragedy.
